END THE STAGNATION!!! AVP.

Aliens vs. predator, for some people they are transported back to the '90s to a time of the Jaguar. Others not so far back to some, alright movies. I thought they were alright anyways. But an even fewer number of folks think back to the latest Aliens vs. Predator game, for modern consols.

Well, here we go. Time to dive into another game that wasn't really well recieved.

Modern of the Month: Bastion

Sometimes, things work out just right.

You can slave away on a project for months, and it'll only come out 'merely okay'. Pour your heart and soul into it, and it'll be recieved as strictly normal. That's always a possibility of the world. Just how it goes.

But then sometimes, it all just works perfect. The right people working on the right things at the right times with the right help. It all comes together into something amazing.

Such is what I like to think is the case with today's subject: Bastion.

Now, I will fore-warn you right now. There will be spoilers to this. And believe me; you'll want to come into the game fresh. Plus, not much of what's being said will make much sense if you don't know the context.

Once again: IF YOU HAVE NOT PLAYED THROUGH BASTION, COMPLETELY, STOP RIGHT HERE. GO PLAY IT. IT IS WORTH YOUR WHILE. Seriously, this game is fantastic.

That means you, Billy.

Modern of the Month: Deus Ex Human Revolution

I will admit to being a bit jaded and ornery when it comes to the games I like.

There are some games that people expect me to love, and yet I'll have only a few good things to say about them. And yet, other games that even I wasn't expecting to like, I absolutely adore. In cases like that, it's usually some indefinable quality that I can't put into words that makes all the difference. I'll say outright the flaws to be had in the game, and yet confess undying love for it regardless. I notice a lot of the time that what sparks a lot of those feelings is good writing throughout the game. (wut a thurprise) One example to give there would be the Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War series. More notably, the first one and (most) its expansion packs. There's a strong sense of setting in those games, and so much of it is communicated by the writing. Either by what the units say, what everyone says in the cutscenes, the little descriptions of every map, or even the fluff of th

Onechan Bara, Sexy samurai in bikinis kill zombies? How Can I refuse?

Onechan Bara, Sexy samurai in bikinis kill zombies? How Can I refuse?

Actually, pretty easy to refuse this one.

Onechanbara is a japanese game where you play as either a sexy lady in a cowboy hat, her little schoolgirl sister or the moonwalking skimpy police woman. Right off the bat only the Bikini Woman, Named Aya, but you get to play as the other two later in the story.

STORY

Now, down to business, the story... The story kind of just starts outta nowhere, it opens with Aya in the shower in a glorious PG-13 cinematic, which means, no full nudity... *Cry* Well after some dialog between Aya and her sister, which is hard to get into because the game is not dubbed, just subbed, as they are watching the news, suddenly ZOMBIES!!! AHHHHHHH!!! And then they leave to go fight... ZOMBIES!!! AHHHHHHH!!! That's pretty much the beginning of the story, there are just zombies, and that is that.

Retro of the Week - Streets of Rage 2

(This RotW was originally posted on EchoNET, as of this being posted, all previous EchoNET posts are now accounted for)

Where do you even start with Streets of Rage 2, where!? I guess I'll start at the most logical place: The story.

Basically, your friend Adam from the first game has been kidnapped by the crime lord (or whatever you'd call him) Mister X. You playing as Axel, a girl named Blaze, Adam's brother Skate, or Axel's wrestler friend Max, must re-defeat the crime syndicate lead by Mr. X that has returned and kidnapped Adam. It's a pretty basic plot, but c'mon, this is a Genesis/Mega Drive game from 1992. Imagine if Sonic 2 had a huge story! So basically... the story is not important. What is important is: you have an excuse for beating some ass.

Scheduling Thoughts

So I'm near-constantly slogging away on more Retro of the Week posts. I'd like to get a good-size buffer of them going before I start making good on the 'Retro of the Week" part of this whole thing. When that happens, I'm not sure, but rest assured, I'm working towards it.

I'm also working on ever more Modern of the Month articles. As you'll be able to see in due time, there's considerably more thought and words put into a MotM than a standard RotW, to make up for many fewer of them there will be. Thankfully, I can be a lot more selective about what I choose for MotM than RotW, which means I can choose games I have a bit more passion about. (this will get very obvious as time goes on)

I'm also thinking of releasing a new MotM at the start of every month. Hopefully, this will help me make the connection that pay rent = update MotM, and vice versa, and help bring some sort of remembrance cycle going in my forgetful life. Plu
